Residencies

cheLA manages two types of residencies.

In the first type, cheLA applies to funding sources or institutional collaborations (generally governmental or international non-profit cultural organizations) that cover all operational costs. When available, we publish open calls for these residency programs.

For the second type of residency, cheLA organizes groups of 5 to 10 artists for periods of one to three months. Each artist provides the funds to cover their own expenses (airfare, residency operational costs, and any additional living expenses). We encourage individual artists to seek funding from external grant-giving sources to support their stay. In these cases, cheLA provides the necessary documentation to facilitate the search for external funding.

For this second type of residency, the open call is permanently available, and applications can be submitted by email or through the residency application form.

History of Residencies at cheLA

Since its beginnings, cheLA has recognized the importance of residency as a space for research, development, and collaborative creation.

Residency experiences at cheLA during its first 20 years have been broad in more than one sense: artists living at cheLA for long periods (even years) or short stays; following a program or working with complete freedom; organized by cheLA or in partnership with other groups; carried out at cheLA or abroad; open to the local and/or international community; and funded by external organizations, by cheLA itself, or by the artists.

Structure for Residencies at cheLA

Structurally, cheLA has two apartments that, at different stages, have been adapted and equipped to allow up to 10 people to use them as comfortable living spaces during residency programs. The other spaces at cheLA can be used as studios, depending on the needs of each program.

cheLA also has connections with various institutions, and we are willing to take advantage of any needs or opportunities to generate new institutional partnerships.

Finally, for people coming to a residency at cheLA (or even at any other residency in the country), you can consult our Guide for residents, which contains basic information mainly oriented toward everyday life.

Residency Programs

The following are the programs (and/or projects that include residencies) that have been developed since 2024. When these programs open their calls for applications, announcements are made on our official website, on our social media, and on specific residency platforms such as ResArtis.
